In January 2016, the United States Department of Justice announced that the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) would be giving more than $10 billion in ammunition to Saudi Arabia, which had been supplying ammunition to Yemen in a bid to end a civil war.
In the meantime, the U,S.
has also been supporting Saudi Arabia’s missile programs with more than 1,300 F-15C fighter jets and nearly 2,000 Apache helicopters, which the Pentagon says are needed to fight off a possible Iran-backed invasion of Yemen.
Saudi Arabia has said it is committed to peace talks with the Houthis, who control the country.
But critics say the US is also fueling the Saudi-backed rebellion, which has killed hundreds of thousands of people.
Some lawmakers in Congress have also called for the Pentagon to account for its support of Saudi Arabia in the war.
